SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 23 MAY 2022
• PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 22 MAY 2022 (22H30) The office of the Eastern Cape secretary for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has announced a preparatory meeting on 24 May 2022 at the Mayfair Hotel, Mtata. The members are set to hold the meeting in solidarity with the #JusticeForHlehle movement. This follows after the death of Sanga Nozintaba Hlehle on 21 April 2022.
• MTHATHA – 22 MAY 2022 (22H55) Protest expected by various members on 25 May 2022 from approximately 10H00 starting at Munitata or OR Tambo, Mthatha. The members are expected to march in solidarity with the #JusticeForHlehle movement and #SayNoToGBV towards the Central Police Station. The protest is set to follow the death of Hlehle on 21 April 2022. Furthermore, the members are set to request that the Police arrest the alleged perpetrator, Major Bekizulu. The march is expected to include members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), students and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Ambassadors from the Walter Sisulu University (WSU), The African National Congress’ (ANC) Young Women’s Desk and the ANC Youth League (ANCYL). Motorists are advised to make use of alternative routes.
• PORT ST JOHNS – 23 MAY 2022 (08H25) Protest reported on the R61 between Port St Johns and Mthatha in the vicinity of Mkanzini. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 23 MAY 2022
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 23 MAY 2022 (02H30) The Free State South African Police Services (SAPS) has launched search operations in the area. The operation has been established following intelligence received by the public regarding three civilians fatally injured at the intersection of the N6 and R702 on Saturday, 22 May 2022. Reports indicate that the three members have been moved to the location where they have been fatally injured. This follows after the Police confiscated empty cartridges and noted motor vehicle tracks at the scene. Sergeant Mokete Godfrey Motsoai has requested the public to provide any information to assist in identifying and apprehending the suspects.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 23 MAY 2022
• SANDTON – 22 MAY 2022 (23H30) Eskom has announced that stage 2 loadshedding is expected to be implemented between 23 May 2022 and 27 May 2022. This follows as units amounting to 3,028 megawatts (MW) are being maintained in addition to 14, 992MW of capacity being unavailable due to breakdowns. The service is expected to be disrupted from approximately 17H00 until 22H00. The public has been advised to reduce the usage of electricity by switching off non-essential items.
• VEREENIGING – 23 MAY 2022 (00H40) The Emfuleni Local Municipality has announced a special council meeting set to be held on 24 May 2022 at the Vereeniging Banquet Hall. The meeting has been called in terms of section 19 of the Municipal Systems Act No 32 2000. Furthermore, the meeting is expected to commence at approximately 10H00. During the meeting, members are set to discuss the approval of a special adjustment budget in terms of Section 28 of the Municipal Budget and Reporting Regulations of 2009. The notice has been provided as required by Legislation.
• SOWETO – 23 MAY 2022 (06H00) Protest reported on Chris Hani Road/M68 in the vicinity of Maponya Mall. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. • GERMISTON – 23 MAY 2022 (08H20) UPDATE Demonstrations reported on Knights Road in the vicinity of SA Metal Group. Stone-throwing reported in the area. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (07H10) Demonstrations reported on Main Reef Road near Stanhope Road. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with stones and debris. (06H40) Protest reported on Lower Boksburg Road. Previous demonstrations have been related to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 23 MAY 2022 (08H40) Members affiliated with the National Education Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU) employed by the South Africa Revenue Service (SARS) are expected to begin with lunchtime demonstrations today, 23 May 2022 and Tuesday, 24 May 2022. The lunchtime demonstrations are part of the build-up to a protest expected on Wednesday, 25 May 2022. The demonstrators are expected to protest in demand of a 12% increase across the board, full and equal medical aid and housing allowance for all employees.
• SANDTON – 23 MAY 2022 (09H10) The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) has called off its planned shutdown of the A Re Yeng bus services. This follows after NUMSA signed an agreement with Xtremetec and Tshwane Affected Investment Operation (TAIO) for workers to receive Transport allowance and other benefits. NUMSA has secured medical aid contribution from the employer of 30%, which is expected to increase by 8% in 2023, increase in annual leave for those employees who have been at the company for more than two years, ten days per annum for approved courses.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 23 MAY 2022
• WESTVILLE – 23 MAY 2022 (00H20) The South African Police Service (SAPS) of Westville has announced the launch of a search operation. The operation is set to apprehend Raksha Rajkuma Pooran regarding a case of Fraud and Theft. This follows after Pooran allegedly defrauded a local business of approximately R3,5 million between 2017 and 2019. The Police have requested the public to provide any information to assist in the Suspect’s apprehension.
• DURBAN/ETHEKWINI – 23 MAY 2022 (02H00) The Kwazulu-Natal Provincial Government and Ethekwini Municipality have addressed the nation following the adverse weather on 21 May 2002 and 22 May 2022. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) stated that the storm is set to affect the coastal areas, including the district of King Cetshwayo and Mkhanyakude. The adverse weather has resulted in damaged infrastructure, including roads, settlements and other properties. Reports indicate that areas have been declared inaccessible. Approximately 250 people have been evacuated from Tongaat and Tehuise care centres. Furthermore, 82 care centres with 3,186 people in the city are set to be used to accommodate displaced people. The Government is set to monitor the water levels in flood-prone areas. The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has been requested to deploy troops to assist the local Government. Relief interventions are ongoing to ensure social support services, relief assistance and medical assistance. Additionally, social partners have been activated, including the Red Cross, Al-Imdaad Foundation and others.
• POMEROY – 23 MAY 2022 (07H35) Protest reported on the R33 between Pomeroy and Tugela Ferry. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. • FORT MISTAKE – 23 MAY 2022 (07H40) Protest reported on the N11 between Fort Mistake and Ladysmith in the vicinity of Chuffy’s biltong. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

• POLOKWANE/PIETERSBURG – 23 MAY 2022 (02H10) The Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, is expected to join the South African National Road Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) to address the media on Monday, 23 May 2022. The members are set to address the public at approximately 10H00. Furthermore, the Minister and SANRAL are expected to discuss the issues presented to the media. Additionally, the members are set to provide the media with updates on SANRAL related issues.
• VIVO – 23 MAY 2022 (07H20) Protest reported on the R521. Taxi operators have obstructed the road. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery related to road infrastructure. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 23 MAY 2022
• KABOKWENI – 23 MAY 2022 (01H00) Three suspects are expected to appear before the Kabokweni Magistrate’s court on Monday, 23 May 2022. The suspects are expected to appear in court regarding the death of Bontle Mashiyane. The arrests followed after the South African Police Services (SAPS) received intelligence about the location of Mashiyane’s body. Reports indicate that the suspects confessed to killing an additional four others who resided on the street. Furthermore, the suspects have been linked to prior crimes, including kidnapping.
• NELSPRUIT/MBOMBELA – 23 MAY 2022 (05H50) Protest reported on R37 towards Sabie. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. • HARTBEESPOORT – 23 MAY 2022 (07H30) Road closure expected on the R104 between the Engen Petrol Station in Damdoryn and Snake Park from today, 23 May 2022, until Thursday, 26 May 2022. The road closure will allow the Department of Water and Sanitation, Brits/Hartbeespoort Rotary, to conduct maintenance and clean-up action on and around the Hartbeespoort Dam.
• ZEERUST – 23 MAY 2022 (08H50) Protest expected by members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) on Wednesday, 25 May 2022, at the Zeerust Magistrate Court. The EFF members are expected to protest to demand the court to deny bail to Ntseng Molefe, who has been arrested for the murder of Tshwanelo Seleke. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• SONOP – 23 MAY 2022 (09H15) Protest reported on Sonop Road. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• LEHURUTSHE – 23 MAY 2022 (09H40) Protest expected by members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) on Wednesday, 25 May 2022, at the Lehurutshe Magistrate Court. The EFF members are expected to protest to demand the court to deny bail for Juta Mosadi, who has been arrested for the murder of Gaitewe Kabasia. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

• KIMBERLEY – 23 MAY 2022 (04H25) The International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Alvin Botes, in collaboration with the Northern Cape Provincial Government Premier Zamani Saul, is expected to host an ASEAN investment seminar on 24 May 2022 at the Mittal Seperepere Convention Centre. The seminar is set to start at approximately 08H00 and is expected to compromise from members of business communities, investors, Government Departments, Municipalities and Organs of the State. During the seminar, members are set to discuss investment opportunities for local and international investors in the Northern Cape. The countries included in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore and others.

• GOUDA – 22 MAY 2022 (19H10) Road closure reported on the R44 and R46 between Gouda and Hermon. The closure has followed a motor vehicle accident (MVA) involving an unspecified amount of vehicles. Reports indicate that six civilians have been injured during the MVA. Emergency services have arrived on the scene. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
• PLETTENBERG BAY – 22 MAY 2022 (23H50) Three suspects are expected to appear before the Plettenberg Bay Magistrates’ court on Monday, 23 May 2022, regarding charges of the possession of stolen property valued at approximately R80,000. This follows after the Police arrested the suspects during routine patrols on the R340 near Wittedrift. A suspect allegedly fled a Ford Bantam, which led to the Police investigating the vehicle. During the investigation, Police discovered two Yamaha boat engines valued at approximately R40,000 each. The Suspects allegedly confiscated the engines at the Keurbooms River. The Police are expected to continue search operations for the apprehension of the suspects’ accomplice.
• CAPE TOWN – 23 MAY 2022 (05H55) Protest reported on Baden Powell Drive towards Swartkilp Road. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. • CAPE TOWN – 23 MAY 2022 (07H55) Fire reported on Voortrekker Road/R102 in the vicinity of Shoprite Store in Parow. Reports indicate that a building has caught fire. The reason for the fire is unknown at this stage. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Emergency services are on the scene.
• CAPE TOWN – 23 MAY 2022 (08H25) UPDATE Demonstrations reported at the intersection of Japhta K Masemola/M9 and New Eisleben Road and the intersection of Oscar Mpetha Road and Mew Way.
