• PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 25 APR 2022 (09H05) UPDATE Police have dispersed demonstrations. The N2 route in Colchester has been reopened for traffic flow. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. (07H00) Road closure reported on the N2. Parents and learners are protesting due to the Government’s failure to provide scholar transport. (06H25) Protest reported on the N2 in the BP Fuel Station. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• KIRKWOOD – 25 APR 2022 (09H35) Protest reported on the R336 in Kirkwood. The farmworkers are protesting in demand of wages increases and demand more local residents be employed. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 25 APR 2022
• WELKOM – 24 APR 2022 (21H25) Free State Police have launched an investigation into a case of culpable homicide following the deaths of six people during a motor vehicle accident on the R30 between Allanridge and Bothaville outside Welkom. Provincial Police Spokesperson Masilela Langa has stated that six people have been declared dead after the driver of a 21-seater minibus had recently been involved in an accident. Langa has noted that the passengers had been transported to nearby hospitals to receive medical attention. The incident follows after the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) recently requested the Department to reopen the R30 road to ease traffic movement during the Easter holidays. The Spokesperson has stated that investigations into the incident are underway.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 25 APR 2022
• JOHANNESBURG – 24 APR 2022 (21H35) Protest reported on Nasrec Road approaching the N17 intersection in Riverlea, Johannesburg. Community members are protesting against recent shootings and killings in the area, as well as service delivery related issues. Demonstrators are calling on law enforcement to address insecurity in the community. Participants are barricading all entrances to the area with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Authorities are on the scene.
• LENASIA – 25 APR 2022 (06H50) Protest reported at the intersection of the R558 and the Golden Highway. Residents of Finetown are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Stone-throwing reported in the area. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 25 APR 2022 (07H40) Protest expected by the members affiliated with the South African Federation of Trade Union (SAFTU) today, 25 April 2022, at the Union Buildings from 12H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against budget cuts, neoliberalism and attacks on collective bargaining, against Eskom tariffs, against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and demand permanent employment for Community Work Programme (CWP), Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) workers and a basic income grant of R1,500 for unemployed citizens. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 25 APR 2022
• DURBAN – 25 APR 2022 (00H10) Premier Sihle Zikalala has announced the gradual resumption of operations at the Port of Durban. This follows after recent adverse weather conditions and floodings had caused a suspension of operations at the country’s largest container hub. Zikalala has confirmed that the port has gradually resumed operations, with food, medical supplies and petrol being prioritised. The Port of Durban regulates 60% of the country’s shipments and transporting of goods and commodities to and from other countries in the region. The provincial Premier has noted that the Government required an estimated R1,9 billion to complete disaster relief efforts.
• UMLAZI – 25 APR 2022 (06H15) Protest reported on Prince Mcwayizeni Drive and Inwabi Road. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 25 APR 2022
• VUWANI – 25 APR 2022 (07H30) Peaceful protest expected at the Vuwani Magistrates Court in Vuwani from 08H00 today, 25 April 2022. Local community members from the Makhado area are expected to conduct a motorcade to the Vuwani Magistrates Court to stage a protest against farm murders. This follows the recent deaths of two people on an agricultural holding during a house robbery incident in Levubu outside Thohoyandou. Police have since arrested two suspects in connection to the incident. The suspects are scheduled to appear before the Vuwani Magistrates Court today, 25 April 2022, from 09H00. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant as ground travel disruptions are likely during the motorcade demonstration. Authorities are expected to monitor the event.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 25 APR 2022
• HOUTBOS – 24 APR 2022 (22H25) Mpumalanga Police have confirmed the arrests of three alleged illegal immigrants near the Oshoek border post between eSwatini and South Africa. The suspects have been arrested on allegations of attempting to smuggle marijuana valued at approximately R94,000 into South Africa. Police Spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli has stated that the suspects had been identified by officers during a routine patrol in the area. Upon searching their vehicle, officers recovered three refuse bags containing marijuana estimated at R94,256. Preliminary investigations indicate that the narcotics had been smuggled from the Kingdom of eSwatini into South Africa. The suspects are scheduled to appear before the Elukwatini Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 25 April 2022.
• LEANDRA – 25 APR 2022 (06H00) Protest reported on the R29 in Leandra towards Kinross. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. • EMANGWENI – 25 APR 2022 (06H40) Health Member of Executive Council (MEC), Sasekani Manzini, with Minister of Health Joe Dhaahla is expected to launch the 2022 Africa Vaccination Week today, 25 April 2022, until Saturday, 30 April 2022 and the Commemoration of the World Malaria Day on 25 April 2022. The event will be held at the Mangeni Stadium, Nkomazi Local Municipality, from 09H30 until 12H30.
• MARITE – 25 APR 2022 (07H50) Protest reported on the R40 in Marite towards New Market Manor. A truck has obstructed the road. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• SABIE – 25 APR 2022 (09H00) UPDATE Road closure reported on the R37 at the intersection between Lydenburg and Sabie due to protests. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (07H45) Demonstrations reported on the R37 near Densa Sawmills. The demonstrators have set a truck on fire. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (06H55) Demonstrations reported on the R532 towards Graskop. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. (05H30) Protest reported on the R37 in the vicinity of Sabie towards Lydenburg and Nelspruit/Mbombela. The Simile residents are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Reports indicate that the demonstrators have set a truck alight. • MAHIKENG – 25 APR 2022 (08H50) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to hold its EFF Freedom Day Rally on Wednesday, 27 April 2022, from 10H00. The rally is expected to be held in Ward five at the open field in the vicinity of Magogoe.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 25 APR 2022
• KIMBERLEY – 24 APR 2022 (23H00) The provincial Department of Roads and Public Works has announced the implementation of a traffic control system on the R31 in the vicinity of Wildebeeskuil Pan between Kimberley and Barkley West. The measure allows the reopening of one lane on the road to enable the resumption of traffic movement. This follows after the national highway had previously been closed due to safety concerns following increasing water levels, exacerbated by sewage diverted onto the land next to the roadway. The traffic diversion allows motorists to pass through a stop and go traffic control system. The Department has reportedly set aside R38 million to repair the road.

• CAPE TOWN – 25 APR 2022 (08H40) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members today, 25 April 2022, at the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), from 10H00.
