• PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 25 APR 2022 (09H05) UPDATE Police have dispersed demonstrations. The N2 route in Colchester has been reopened for traffic flow. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. (07H00) Road closure reported on the N2. Parents and learners are protesting due to the Government’s failure to provide scholar transport. (06H25) Protest reported on the N2 in the BP Fuel Station. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. • KIRKWOOD – 25 APR 2022 (15H00) UPDATE Demonstrators have set a truck alight. The Police are attempting to disperse the demonstrators. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (12H00) Demonstrations reported at the entrance of Habata Boedary farm. The demonstrators have barricaded the area with burning tyres and debris. (09H35) Protest reported on the R336 in Kirkwood. The farmworkers are protesting in demand of wages increases and demand more local residents be employed. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. • PORT ELIZABETH/ GQEBERHA – 25 APR 2022 (16H45) The High Court in Gqeberha has granted an interim interdict to farm owners in the Sundays River Valley Municipality, which prevents protesting workers and their supporters from coming within 500 metres of farms. Acting Judge Anusha Rawjee heard the urgent application by the farm owners following several days of protests by both farmworkers and residents of Kirkwood and Addo townships. Among their demands are for farm owners to increase their wages by R30 and for fewer immigrants to be employed. The protests are being led by the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) leaders.

• BOTHAVILLE – 25 APR 2022 (11H15) The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) is expected to hold its Freedom Day Rally on Wednesday, 27 April 2022, from 10H00. The rally is expected to be held at the Boneni Hall under the theme Going back to Basics.
• ALLANRIDGE – 25 APR 2022 (13H35) Road closure reported on the R30 in Allanridge towards Bothaville. The Traffic Department is placing signs by Allanridge. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 25 APR 2022 (12H30) UPDATE Demonstrations reported at the Union Buildings Members of the public are advised to be vigilant. (07H40) Protest expected by the members affiliated with the South African Federation of Trade Union (SAFTU) today, 25 April 2022, at the Union Buildings from 12H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against budget cuts, neoliberalism and attacks on collective bargaining, against Eskom tariffs, against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and demand permanent employment for Community Work Programme (CWP), Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) workers and a basic income grant of R1,500 for unemployed citizens. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• ENNERDALE – 25 APR 2022 (12H50) UPDATE Police have dispersed the demonstrations. R558 and the Golden Highway have been reopened for traffic to flow. Police will continue to monitor the area. (10H50) Protest reported on Katz Road and Town Road in the vicinity of the Department of Health. (06H50) Protest reported at the intersection of the R558 and the Golden Highway. Residents of Finetown are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Stone-throwing reported in the area. • CARLETONVILLE – 25 APR 2022 (15H20) Unions are expected to hold a meeting with Sibanye-Stillwater’s gold operations management on Tuesday, 26 April 2022, to discuss their response to the mining company’s final settlement. Sibanye-Stillwater is offering an R850 wage increase each year for three years for the lowest-paid employees. In addition, workers would get an R50 increase in the living-out allowance each year, while artisans, miners and officials would get a 5% annual increase for the duration of the multi-term agreement. The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) have been on strike at Sibanye since 09 March 2022.
• SOWETO – 25 APR 2022 (16H00) Protest reported on the N12 at the Nancefield and Samfur bridge in the Klipriviersoog area. Demonstrators are barricading the road with burning tyres and debris. SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 25 APR 2022
• DURBAN – 25 APR 2022 (00H10) Premier Sihle Zikalala has announced the gradual resumption of operations at the Port of Durban. This follows after recent adverse weather conditions and floodings had caused a suspension of operations at the country’s largest container hub. Zikalala has confirmed that the port has gradually resumed operations, with food, medical supplies and petrol being prioritised. The Port of Durban regulates 60% of the country’s shipments and transporting of goods and commodities to and from other countries in the region. The provincial Premier has noted that the Government required an estimated R1,9 billion to complete disaster relief efforts.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 25 APR 2022
• VUWANI – 25 APR 2022 (07H30) Peaceful protest expected at the Vuwani Magistrates Court in Vuwani from 08H00 today, 25 April 2022. Local community members from the Makhado area are expected to conduct a motorcade to the Vuwani Magistrates Court to stage a protest against farm murders. This follows the recent deaths of two people on an agricultural holding during a house robbery incident in Levubu outside Thohoyandou. Police have since arrested two suspects in connection to the incident. The suspects are scheduled to appear before the Vuwani Magistrates Court today, 25 April 2022, from 09H00. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant as ground travel disruptions are likely during the motorcade demonstration. Authorities are expected to monitor the event.

The event will be held at the Mangeni Stadium, Nkomazi Local Municipality, from 09H30 until 12H30.

• MAHIKENG – 25 APR 2022 (08H50) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to hold its EFF Freedom Day Rally on Wednesday, 27 April 2022, from 10H00. The rally is expected to be held in Ward five at the open field in the vicinity of Magogoe.

• KIMBERLEY – 25 APR 2022 (16H20) The Kimberley Magistrate’s Court has postponed the murder case of Relebogile Segami to 19 May 2022. This follows after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) decided to join two sexual assault cases against the suspect. NPA Spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane, stated that the accused was out on bail at the time of the second murder. The body of the victim was discovered behind the Northern Cape Legislature a few weeks ago.

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 25 APR 2022
• CAPE TOWN – 25 APR 2022 (08H40) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members today, 25 April 2022, at the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), from 10H00. • CAPE TOWN – 25 APR 2022 (17H50) The Cape Town Magistrate’s Court has denied bail to Zandile Mafe in the Parliament arson case. Mafe’s legal counsel, Advocate Dali Mpofu appealed the dismissal at the Western Cape High court today, 25 April 2022. Mafe faces charges of housebreaking with the intent to commit arson and terrorism, theft, arson, as well as a separate terrorism charge.
