SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 25 MAR 2022

  • LADY GREY – 25 MAR 2022 (03H30) Police have announced the results of a recent intelligence-driven search operation conducted on Tuesday, 22 March 2022 and Wednesday, 23 March 2022. Police have arrested two suspects following the confiscation of 27 Crystal Meth bags and Mandrax tablets valued at R4,250 in addition to R1,080 in cash. Police arrested two 19-year old suspects on 23 March 2022 following the confiscation of approximately 13 small transparent Crystal Meth bags and 2 Mandrax tablets worth R1,550. Furthermore, on the same day, the Police arrested two suspects for the illegal possession of a 9mm pistol in addition to a magazine and four rounds of ammunition.
  • BISI – 25 MAR 2022 (07H15) Protest reported on the R56 between Ibisi and Lucingweni. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery.   • BLOEMFONTEIN – 25 MAR 2022 (06H05) Protest expected by the Mangaung Service Delivery Forum (MSDF) and the National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers (NUPSAW) members today, 25 March 2022. The demonstrators are expected to gather at Paradise Hall from 09H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against corruption, poor service delivery, unemployment. The demonstrators demand the absorption of Security officers, access to land and local economic development. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.

  • JOHANNESBURG – 25 MAR 2022 (05H00) The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) is expected to hold an ordinary virtual session from today, 25 March 2022, until Sunday, 27 March 2022. The meeting is expected to address the status of convening Provincial and Regional Conferences, the African National Congress Youth League (ANCL), the African National Congress Veterans League (ANCVL), the African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL), the Program of Action (POA) for ANC renewals, the Framework for the ANC response to the recommendations of the commission on state captures, and international relations, amongst others, proposals on the organisational design of ANC Headquarters and International Relations.
  • GRASMERE – 25 MAR 2022 (06H10) Protest reported on the N1 Grasmere near Ennerdale. The demonstrators are protesting due to electricity disconnections.   • ROODEPOORT – 25 MAR 2022 (09H25) Protest reported outside the Roodepoort Magistrates Court. Members of Operation Dudula are protesting in solidarity with the Operation Dudula Leader Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini, who is expected to appear in court following his arrest regarding the Dobsonville case opened by a Soweto resident Victor Ramerafe for assault and theft charges against Dlamini. Members of the public are advised to be vigilant. Police are on the scene.
  • TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 25 MAR 2022 (13H30) UPDATE Members of the EFF are outside the PSIRA offices on Thabo Sehume Street. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant.  (06H50) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members today, 25 March 2022, from 12H00 at the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) offices. The EFF members are expected to protest to support security officers and security companies and hand over a memorandum of demand. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to the area.
  • WESTONARIA – 25 MAR 2022 (14H00) UPDATE Demonstrators have dispersed on the N12. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant.  (13H10) NUM and AMCU members have arrived at the Libanon Business Park. The demonstrators demand R1000 and a 6% salary increase. (10H35) NUM and AMCU members are gathering on the R501 in Carletonville turn off and will march on the N12 towards Sibanye-Stillwater Libanon Business Park. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes.  (06H40) Protest expected by the members affiliated with the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) today, 25 March 2022, from 10H00 at the Sibanye-Stillwater Libanon Business Park. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand salary increases. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to the area.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 25 MAR 2022 (14H20) UPDATE The Johannesburg High Court has found Ntuthuko Shoba guilty of the premeditated murder of Tshegofatso Pule. The case has been postponed to 10 May 2022 for the start of sentencing proceedings. Shoba remains in custody. (10H45) Demonstrations reported outside the Magistrate Court. Motorists are advised to be vigilant.  (08H00) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) at the Johannesburg High Court today, 25 March 2022, from 08H00. The EFF members are expected to protest for the judgement on Tshegofatso Pule’s Gender-Based Violence (GBV) murder case. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
  • SOSHANGUVE – 25 MAR 2022 (15H30) UPDATE Protest reported at Mabopane railway station. Demonstrators have set a truck alight. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are on the scene.  (08H05) Protest reported on the M20 between Extension 5 and Extension 9. The demonstrators are protesting due to service delivery related to power outages.   • CENTURION – 25 MAR 2022 (16H30) Cable theft reported along the R55 between Lochner Road and Mimosa, Raslouw in Centurion. The suspects stole the transformer as well. A number of cases of theft and vandalism have been reported across the area. Police are investigating the matter.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 25 MAR 2022 (17H00) UPDATE Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla Lux is expected to undergo an identity parade on Saturday morning, 26 March 2022, at the Johannesburg Central police station. Operation Dudula members are clashing with Police officers. (16H45) Police are attempting to disperse Operation Dudula members with stun grenades. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (14H10) Protest reported outside the Johannesburg Central Police Station by members of Operation Dudula. Demonstrators are protesting in support of Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla Lux who is in custody. Roads that are affected include M1/ De Villiers Graaf Motorway, R41/ Main Reef Road and Alexander Street. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
  • SOSHANGUVE – 25 MAR 2022 (17H15) Cash in transit (CIT) robbery reported at Batho Plaza shopping mall in Soshanguve. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police have been dispatched to the scene.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 25 MAR 2022 (17H45) Protest expected at the Museum Africa in Newtown on Saturday, 26 March 2022, from 09H00 by the South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU). Member of SAFTU will be protesting against xenophobia. Demonstrators will be marching from Peter Roos Park at the corner of Empire Road and Queen Road to the Museum Africa. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the march.
  • VOSLOORUS – 25 MAR 2022 (18H30) UPDATE Protest reported at the N3 and Barry Marais Road intersection. Demonstrators are barricading the road with burning tyres and debris.   • PIETERMARITZBURG – 25 MAR 2022 (16H15) Protest expected throughout KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday, 27 March 2022 by e-hailing drivers, All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa (ATDF) and Operation Dudula. The protests may target shopping malls and centres, national, provincial and district routes, Central Business Districts, foreign-owned businesses, toll plazas and ultra cities, truck depots, and other undetermined places. Motorists are advised to be vigilant during the protest. Police are aware of the situation

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 25 MAR 2022

  • PIETERSBURG/POLOKWANE – 25 MAR 2022 (16H30) UPDATE Transport Media Liaison officer Mike Maringa stated that the Mankweng Taxi Association has agreed to open the R81 and hold a meeting to resolve the disruption that is currently underway. The Mankweng Taxi Association has been barricading roads to prevent Seshego Taxi Association from operating on the route. (14H50) The N1/ Munnik Avenue remains closed to traffic. The R81 to Delmada is open to motorists. The situation in Devenish Street near Mandela Drive is volatile. Three taxis and a vehicle have burnt out in Devenish Street. Motorists are advised to avoid the areas.  (08H50) Road closures reported on the N1/R101 and R81 due to protests. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes.  (07H40) Protest reported on the R71 and Dalmada road. Taxi operators are gathering and blocking the road. The demonstration is suspected to be related to the impound of taxis, unfair requirements and other challenges related to the taxi industry. SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 25 MAR 2022

  • LYDENBURG/MASHISHING – 25 MAR 2022 (06H25) UPDATE The demonstrators are expected to gather at the Mashishing Community Hall from 08H00 and march to the Lydenburg Police Station to hand over a memorandum to the Station Commander concerning foreigner and drug-related crimes. (20H00) Protest expected in Lydenburg on Friday, 25 March 2022 from 02H00. Community members will be demanding foreign nationals to leave the area.   • WITBANK – 20 MAR 2022 (15H25) UPDATE The N12 and R555 have been reopened to traffic. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (13H50) Demonstrators are barricading all roads leading to Witbank. The R555 and N12 are closed to traffic. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (11H40) Protest reported on the N12 Petroport in the vicinity of TotalEnergies fuel station.   • MIDDELBURG – 25 MAR 2022 (15H30) Protest reported at Middelburg Toll Plaza on the N4 by taxi operators. Demonstrators are barricading the road in both directions. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 25 MAR 2022

  • RUSTENBURG – 25 MAR 2022 (17H30) North West Parks Board employees are threatening to strike due to outstanding salaries. The National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU) stated that employees had not been paid last Friday, 18 March 2022, as agreed. NEHAWU has raised concerns to the management. The North West Parks Board stated that its ability to generate income and pay workers’ salaries had been affected by earlier COVID-19 related restrictions and its failure to collect money owed to it by concessionaires operating in parks.

  • CAPE TOWN – 25 MAR 2022 (06H30) Peaceful protest expected outside the Parliament building in Cape Town from 12H00 until 14H00 today, 25 March 2022. Members of the public are expected to embark on a global climate strike to call for increased efforts to address climate change. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant when travelling in affected areas for the duration of the demonstration. Authorities are expected to monitor the event.
  • SOMERSET WEST – 25 MAR 2022 (15H10) UPDATE Demonstrators are burning tyres on Hlathi Drive and Reunion Drive in Nomzamo.
