SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – 28 APR 2022
• PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 28 APR 2022 (10H20) Protest reported on 5th Avenue and Community Street. Community members have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• BISHO – 28 APR 2022 (15H20) The Bisho High Court has rejected the bail application of the presiding judge in the Mandela fraud case. Judge Igna Stretch stated that the application was a rushed decision and not supported by facts. This follows after legal representatives believed that the judge had a preconceived judgment on the matter. Among the accused in the case are former Buffalo City Speaker Luleka Simon-Ndzele, former Mayor Zukiswa Ncitha, former Deputy Mayor Themba Tinta, and former Eastern Cape Health MEC Sindiswa Gomba and the Municipality’s former Supply Chain Manager, Thembelani Sali. The accused are charged with fraud, money laundering and the contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act relating to the memorial services of former President Nelson Mandela.

• BETHLEHEM – 28 APR 2022 (12H40) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to hold its Workers Day commemoration event on Sunday, 01 May 2022, from 09H00. The event is expected to take place in Volgenfontein.
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 28 APR 2022 (18H00) Road closure reported on Memoriam Road near the cemetery in Vista Park. The road is closed due to a motor vehicle accident. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene.

• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 28 APR 2022 (06H00) President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to host the President of Guinea Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, on a State Visit to Pretoria today, 28 April 2022, from 08H30. This visit by President Embaló will provide an opportunity for South Africa and Guinea Bissau to strengthen bilateral, political, and socio-economic relations. The visit will also be a platform to reinvigorate several bilateral agreements that require closer implementation.
• SOWETO – 28 APR 2022 (06H05) Police Minister, Bheki Cele, is expected to lead a Ministerial Street Imbizo today, 28 April 2022, from 10H00 at the Pimville Community Centre. Cele, along with the National and Provincial management of the South African Police Service (SAPS), will engage the community of Pimville and surrounding areas to find lasting solutions to their crime concerns. The Ministerial Street Imbizo seeks to provide residents with a platform to discuss and engage the SAPS on identified crimes plaguing the community and promote and improve relations between Police and the community.
• KRUGERSDORP – 28 APR 2022 (07H00) Protest expected by members affiliated with the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) today, 28 April 2022, from 09H00 at the Coronation Park. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand wage gap payments. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• KRUGERSDORP – 28 APR 2022 (08H15) Protest reported at the Krugersdorp License Department. The demonstrators have blockaded the area with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• JOHANNESBURG – 28 APR 2022 (13H45) The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy to intervene and resolve the current labour dispute at Sibanye-Stillwater. This follows after Sibanye-Stillwater Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Neal Froneman, was awarded an R300-million salary in 2021 while the company employees are negotiating for wage increases.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 28 APR 2022 (15H30) Police have arrested Advocate Dan Teffo, who represents four accused in the Senzo Meyiwa trial. The arrest was made after Judge Maumela adjourned court for the day. Teffo has been arrested for allegedly missing a court appearance.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 28 APR 2022 (17H00) The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) is taking the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) to the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria regarding its decision to grant generation licences to Karpowership. OUTA believes NERSA did not provide the public with the necessary information to comment on the project. It claimed many of the objections had not been addressed. The Green Connection lodged a separate application with the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, similarly seeking that NERSA’s decision to grant electricity licences to Karpowership be reviewed and set aside. The group is concerned about the negative impact the gas-fired power plants will have on climate change, the environment and the economy.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 28 APR 2022
• PINETOWN – 28 APR 2022 (07H20) Protest reported on Hansdettman Highway and Wiltshire Road in the vicinity of Clover. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• BLUFF – 28 APR 2022 (10H35) Protest reported on Olive Grove Street in the vicinity of Wentworth Secondary School. Learners have blockaded the road. The reason for the protest is unknown at this stage. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• UMLAZI – 28 APR 2022 (14H45) Police have launched an investigation into a shooting incident in the L section of Umlazi, south of Durban. Suspects entered a residence and opened fire. Three casualties have been reported, and two others injured. The Police are yet to make an arrest.
• QUEENSBURGH – 28 APR 2022 (17H25) UPDATE Burlington Drive and Shallcross Road in Shallcross have been reopened to traffic. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (06H05) Protest reported on Burlington Drive and Shallcross Road in Shallcross. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Previous demonstrators have been related to poor service delivery. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 28 APR 2022
• LEBOWAKGOMO – 28 APR 2022 (09H30) Protest expected by the Defender of the People (DOP) members at the Pick n Pay Store from 11H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against sexual assault and other complaints from employees working at Lebowakgomo Mall. The demonstrators are expected to hand over a memorandum of demands to the Management. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• PIETERSBURG/POLOKWANE – 28 APR 2022 (11H30) Protest reported outside the Seshego Magistrate’s Court. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are protesting to demand the court to deny bail for a suspect who has been charged with murder. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.
• LEPHALALE – 28 APR 2022 (16H00) A suspect is expected to appear at the Lephalale Magistrate’s Court today, 28 April 2022, on charges of attempted murder. The suspect shot at two people who were fishing, mistaking them for a hippopotamus near the Rietspruit farm. One of the individuals has been shot and injured. The Police seized two rifles, one revolver, one pistol and two airguns.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 28 APR 2022
• MZINTI – 28 APR 2022 (10H40) UPDATE Road closure reported on the D797 route between Mzinti and Kamhluswa in the vicinity of Ebukhosini Resort due to protest. The situation is volatile. The Mananga Road has been reopened for traffic flow. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. (07H15) Demonstrations reported at the intersection of Mananga Road and the R571. The Malelane Taxi Association demands that the government fix road infrastructure in the area. (06H20) Protest expected in Nkomazi South today, 28 April 2022. The demonstrators are expected to protest due to poor service delivery. All roads in Nkomazi, which include the R570 and R571 towards the N4, are expected to be blocked by demonstrators. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. • MARITE – 28 APR 2022 (14H10) UPDATE Demonstrators have hijacked trucks and used them to block the R40 between Marite and Bushbuckridge. • RUSTENBURG – 28 APR 2022 (09H10) The South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) is expected to hold its May Day celebrations on Sunday, 01 May 2022, from 10H00. The celebrations are expected to be held at the Civic Centre in Rustenburg.

• BARKLY WEST – 28 APR 2022 (08H40) The Barkly West Magistrate’s Court has postponed the case of Sandile Vaaibooi, to Monday, 23 May 2022, for further Police investigations. Vaaibooi has been arrested and charged with the murder of Patrick Vaaibooi, Angelina Kgatlane, and a South African Police Service (SAPS) member, assault and malicious property damage.

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 28 APR 2022
• PIKETBERG – 28 APR 2022 (06H50) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) today, 28 April 2022, at the Piketberg District Court. The EFF members are expected to protest to call for Justice for Natasha Booise, who was killed by a former Police officer. The demonstrators demand no bail for the former Police officer. • CAPE TOWN – 28 APR 2022 (14H45) The National Treasury has approved for the City of Cape Town to conduct a feasibility study for the management of the commuter rail service. The City has been attempting to take over the rail network from the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) and avert its potential collapse.
• SIMON’S TOWN – 28 APR 2022 (17H15) Protest reported on Red Hill Road at Redhill informal settlement in Simon’s Town. Community members are protesting due to poor service delivery regarding water supply in the area. Demonstrators are barricading the road with burning tyres and debris.
