• EAST LONDON – 29 APR 2022 (08H30) The African National Congress (ANC) is expected to hold its Provincial Conference from Friday, 06 May 2022, until Sunday, 08 May 2022, at the International Convention Centre.
• PORT ELIZABETH/ GQEBERHA – 29 APR 2022 (17H00) The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality held a meeting with the Swedish Local Municipality Gothenburg to strengthen its international relations and economics. The parties discussed projects that will benefit both municipalities, particularly focusing on youth development. The projects will focus on unemployment among youth, insecurity and violence.

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 29 APR 2022
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 29 APR 2022 (12H00) The Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality is expected to pay the Municipal employees today, 29 April 2022, following the Solid Waste Treatment Plant employees’ ongoing protests due to unpaid salaries. The protest follows after the National Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, placed the ailing metro under National Government’s control for failing to handle its financial affairs after being placed under administration at the end of 2019.
• BLOEMFONTEIN – 29 APR 2022 (12H40) The South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) is expected to hold its May Day celebrations Rally on Sunday, 01 May 2022, at the Indoor Sports Center in the vicinity of Petrus Molemela Stadium.

• BRONKHORSTSPRUIT – 29 APR 2022 (02H50) UPDATE The N4 between Bossemanskraal and the Bapsfontein interchange has been reopened to traffic. (00H15) Road closure reported on the N4 Westbound between Bossemanskraal and the Bapsfontein interchange in the vicinity of Bronkhorstspruit. The road has been closed to allow recovery operations following a motor vehicle accident involving a minibus. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 29 APR 2022 (06H00) The Presidency is expected to publish the fourth part of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture, Corruption and Fraud in the Public Sector, including Organs of State, report at 10H00 today, 29 April 2022. This follows after the Presidency recently stated that it is set to formally receive the section of the report on 29 April 2022. Chief Justice and Commission Chairperson Judge Raymond Zondo presented the first part of the report to President Cyril Ramaphosa at the Union Buildings on 04 January 2022. The Presidency formally received the third section of the report on Tuesday, 01 March 2022.
• SOWETO – 29 APR 2022 (09H00) Premier David Makhura is expected to sign the Township Economic Development Bill into law today, 29 April 2022, from 09H00 at the Orlando Community Hall. The Act aims to promote the economic transformation to enable meaningful participation of previously excluded people in the economy. It will also provide a regulatory framework that will allow people living in townships to establish viable and thriving businesses in the areas.
• JOHANNESBURG – 29 APR 2022 (10H40) Protest reported outside the Constitutional Court. Members of the civil society organisation Khulumani support group are protesting to demand reparations for apartheid-era crimes. The demonstrators have blockaded the area. Members of the public are advised to be vigilant. Police have been dispatched.
• LENASIA – 29 APR 2022 (13H50) Protest reported on the N12 in Protea Glen heading towards Lenasia. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Police are on the scene. The road has been cleared for traffic. Previously, demonstrators have been protesting due to poor service delivery.
• SANDTON – 29 APR 2022 (14H30) Eskom has welcomed the report issued by the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture, Corruption and Fraud in the Public Sector. Eskom has assembled a project team to address recommendations in the State Capture report. The report was handed over to a representative of the Presidency today, 29 April 2022. Eskom features in two volumes of part four. Chief Justice and Commission Chairperson Judge, Raymond Zondo, recommends legal action against the 2014 Eskom board to recover losses. Eskom stated that it has already taken steps to recover funds irregularly paid out by Eskom to various suppliers. Eskom, with the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), has successfully recovered R1.1-billion from McKinsey and R1.577-billion from ABB and several other cases. Eskom has initiated civil actions to recover some of the monies lost to State Capture, including R3.8-billion in damages suffered by Eskom due to unlawful actions by those implicated by the State Capture. Eskom is further studying the report to identify whether there are implicated individuals still employed to take appropriate action.
• JOHANNESBURG – 29 APR 2022 (14H45) Advocate Malesela Teffo is expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg today, 29 April 2022. Advocate Malesela Teffo is the defence lawyer in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case. Teffo was arrested on Thursday, 28 April 2022, following proceedings in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria. Teffo allegedly failed to appear in a trespassing matter. It is alleged that the warrant of his arrest was issued in January 2022. However, Teffo stated that his previous warrant of arrest had been cancelled and that the Police used a fraudulent warrant to arrest him.
• SOWETO – 29 APR 2022 (14H50) UPDATE Firefighters have contained the fire at the SAPS barracks on Mayekiso Street in Moroka. The fire has not caused any service disruptions at the Police Station. An investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched. (05H10) Fire reported on Mayekiso Street in Moroka. Reports indicate that a South African Police Service (SAPS) barracks has caught fire. The reason for the fire is unknown at this stage. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene.
• TEMBISA – 29 APR 2022 (15H20) The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) have arrested a Gauteng Traffic Police officer and a co-perpetrator along Madiba Drive in Tembisa. The suspects were arrested for a high-speed chase that ensued due to reckless driving of a white VW Polo sedan, with false registration plates and blue lights and a siren. It was discovered that a hijacked victim was handcuffed, shot and kept pinned down against his will in an alleged police vehicle. The suspects have been detained at the Tembisa Police Station, facing charges of hijacking, kidnapping, attempted murder, impersonating police officials and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
• AKASIA – 29 APR 2022 (15H30) Peaceful protest reported at the Nissan manufacturing company in Rosslyn, Akasia. Employees are protesting due to a labour dispute regarding workers’ salaries. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are on the scene.

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 29 APR 2022
• UMLAZI – 29 APR 2022 (04H30) Protest reported on Rana Road in the vicinity of Umlazi V, Umlazi. Demonstrators have barricaded the roadway with burning tyres and debris. Community members are protesting against service delivery related issues being experienced in the area. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Authorities are aware of the situation.
• PIETERMARITZBURG – 29 APR 2022 (06H10) Protest reported on the R33 in the vicinity of Copesville. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with stones and debris. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• ISIPINGO – 29 APR 2022 (07H00) Protest reported on the N2 towards the M4. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• PINETOWN – 29 APR 2022 (11H25) Protest reported at the intersection of Hansdettman Highway and Klaarwater Road in the vicinity of Wingen Heights Secondary School. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 29 APR 2022
• GIYANI – 29 APR 2022 (11H50) The Mopani District Municipality has announced that it has set aside an R1.5-million to assist Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs), and R800,000 will be shared amongst 40 SMMEs in the agriculture sector to assist farmers in purchasing farm equipment or inputs such as fertilisers, and others. The Municipal Spokesperson, Odas Ngobeni, stated that R350,000 will be shared amongst 25 successful applicants in the tourism category, which should assist the tourism establishments in the district to expand their digital marketing platforms and Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) installations, while the other R350 000 will support local 25 SMMEs n the trade and manufacturing sector.
• PIETERSBURG/POLOKWANE – 29 APR 2022 (12H10) Protest reported outside the Seshego magistrate’s court. The demonstrators are protesting to demand the court to deny bail against three suspects accused of killing Ronald Makgato. The demonstrators have blockaded the entrance of the court. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 29 APR 2022
• NELSPRUIT/ MBOMBELA – 29 APR 2022 (16H00) Residents in Mbombela have raised concerns regarding poor service delivery regarding electricity supply in the area. This follows after residents held a meeting with the Mayor of the City of Mbombela, Sibongile Makushe, the Executive Committee and top Council management. Mbombela has experienced numerous electrical power failures due to the outdated substations and power supply system. The City’s central wards, 15, 16 and 17, are most affected. The Delta substation was designed with a usable lifespan of 30 years. However, only minor upgrading has been done to increase its lifespan by 10 more years.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 29 APR 2022
• MAHIKENG – 29 APR 2022 (07H50) The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Health, Madoda Sambatha, is expected to receive a Cold Chain Vaccine storage equipment from Vodacom today, 29 April 2022, from 10H00 at the Gelukspan Hospital. Vodacom, in collaboration with the National Department of Health, has unveiled the multi-million rand cold chain equipment donation to boost vaccine storage and delivery to local communities.
• POTCHEFSTROOM – 29 APR 2022 (08H50) Protest reported at Promosa Secondary School. Learners are protesting due to the shortage of Educators in the school. SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 29 APR 2022
• KIMBERLEY – 29 APR 2022 (16H10) The Northern Cape Health Member of Executive Council (MEC), Maruping Lekwene and the Health Department convened a meeting with the South African Emergency Personnel’s Union (SAEPU) led by its President, Mpho Mpogeng, at the Health Ministerial offices in Kimberley. The meeting focused on issues facing the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) sector personnel at Vaalharts. This is part of mitigating workplace conflict and harmonising relations toward delivering safe, clinically effective responses to life-threatening emergencies. The Department is working towards having the right numbers of appropriately trained emergency medical personnel and new roadworthy fully-equipped vehicles in the Province.

• CAPE TOWN – 29 APR 2022 (12H30) Peaceful protest expected by members affiliated with The South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) on Sunday, 01 May 2022, at Parliament from 11H00 and march to the Grand Parade as part of the May Day celebrations. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• CAPE TOWN – 29 APR 2022 (16H45) Power outages are expected across the City of Cape Town metropolitan area between 03 May and 08 May 2022. This is as the City continues its electrical infrastructure maintenance programme. Maintenance is scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. No power outages are expected on Friday.
