• PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 30 MAY 2022 (09H25) Protest reported on Standford Road. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• PORT ELIZABETH/GQEBERHA – 30 MAY 2022 (10H10) UPDATE The demonstrators are protesting outside the High Court. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area. (09H20) The demonstrators have gathered at The Donkin Reserve ahead of the protest at the High Court. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (07H55) Protest expected by The Green Connection members today, 30 May 2022, from 08H00 at the Port Elizabeth/Gqeberha High Court against the Shell seismic surveys on the wild coast. The demonstrators are expected to gather on the corner of Donkin Street and Athol Fugard Terrace Street and proceed to the Court. The High Court is expected to hear the applications filed by environmental civil society organisations opposing the planned seismic survey by Shell off the Wild Coast in the province. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• GASELA – 30 MAY 2022 (17H30) Protest reported on the N6 outside Stutterheim heading towards East London at Gasela. Demonstrators are barricading the road and throwing stones at passing vehicles. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Police are on the scene.

• KALWERSPRUIT – 30 MAY 2022 (07H40) Road closure reported on the R34 between Kalwerspruit and Geluk due to a tanker that overturned. Chemical spillage has been reported. No injuries have been reported. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene.
• HOOPSTAD – 30 MAY 2022 (12H50) Premier Sisi Ntombela, along with Members of the Executive Council (MEC), is expected to visit Hoopstad on Tuesday, 31 May 2022, from 10H00 to conduct an oversight inspection of the P21/4 road. The road links Hoopstad and Bloemhof in the North West province.

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 30 MAY 2022
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 30 MAY 2022 (01H20) Fire reported at the Steve Biko Hospital. Reports indicate that a fire broke out at the Wendy House, used as temporary storage for COVID-19 medical waste and an in-transit corpse area. The fire has affected the temporary isolation unit. The reason for the fire is unknown at this stage. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene.
• TSHWANE/PRETORIA – 30 MAY 2022 (07H35) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members on Tuesday, 31 May 2022, at the Eswatini High Commission from 10H00. The EFF members are expected to protest in solidarity with the people of Eswatini and call for the democratisation of Eswatini. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to the area.
• SOWETO – 30 MAY 2022 (09H35) Road closure reported on Elias Motsoaledi Road/M77 between Koma Road and Nxumalo Street due to ongoing protests. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery related to power outages. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are monitoring the situation.
• SOWETO – 30 MAY 2022 (10H50) The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is expected to hold an EFF Freedom Charter Day Rally on Sunday, 26 June 2022, at the Walter Sisulu Square from 11H00. The EFF Commander in Chief (CIC), Julius Malema, is expected to give a keynote address during the rally.
• SANDTON – 30 MAY 2022 (14H30) Eskom announced the implementation of Stage 2 loadshedding from 17H00 until 22H00 today, 30 May 2022. This is due to a breakdown of a generation unit each at Majuba and Medupi Power Stations. Three generation units are expected to return to service by this evening.
• TSHWANE/ PRETORIA – 30 MAY 2022 (15H00) The five suspects accused of murdering former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana soccer player Senzo Meyiwa are currently appearing at the Pretoria High Court. This follows after a delay due to the Netflix Production Company seeking to defend its presence in Court. The suspects allegedly killed Meyiwa at a residence eight years ago. The trial resumed amid controversies with the arrest of Defence Advocate, Malesela Teffo, and the passing of one of the Police officers who arrived first at the crime scene, Brigadier Philani Ndlovu. Teffo stated that his own court case will not impact the murder trial.
• MIDRAND – 30 MAY 2022 (18H00) Securex South Africa is expected to hold an expo at the Gallagher Convention Centre from Tuesday, 31 May, until Thursday, 02 June 2022. The expo will be open from 09H00 until 16H00 daily. More than 160 quality exhibitors will be attending, with thousands of the continent’s security and fire protection professionals across both public and private sectors.

• UMGABABA – 30 MAY 2022 (09H00) Protest reported on the P197 route. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. • MOOI RIVER – 30 MAY 2022 (14H00) UPDATE The N3 Mooi River Toll Plaza has been reopened to traffic. Police are monitoring the situation. The demonstrators continue to barricade the informal settlement entrance with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant. (11H30) Violent protests reported on the N3 and the R103 in the vicinity of Franco-C Saddlery SA. The demonstrators have obstructed the road with burning tyres. The situation is volatile. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. (08H40) Protest reported on the R103 at the P18 turn off to Middlerus. The demonstrators are protesting due to poor service delivery. The demonstrators have obstructed the road with stones and debris. (04H50) Protest reported in the vicinity of the N3 Mooi River Toll Plaza. Emergency services are on scene monitoring the situation. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant when passing through the area.
• TONGAAT – 30 MAY 2022 (15H50) UPDATE Tongaat community members stated that they had been without water for fifty days. The eThekwini municipality stated that the construction of an emergency water supply pipeline from Nyaninga reservoir to Tongaat south reservoir had been completed. As a result, access to intermittent piped water was made available to some areas in Tongaat. Municipal Spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela, stated that arrangements to rebuild the Tongaat water treatment plant are at an advanced stage. The access road to the plant is being repaired. However, the heavy rain last weekend delayed progress. The procurement processes to start rebuilding the plant had been finalised, and work would begin as soon as a contractor was appointed. The municipality continues to supply water through tankers and 48 static tanks. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant in the area. (06H20) Protest reported on Watson Highway/M43 in the vicinity of Brake Village. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched. (21H50) Protest expected in the Tongaat area on 30 May 2022 from 06H00. Reports indicate that the demonstrations are due to residents not having access to clean water for the past few days. Local sources stated that all entrances are expected to be barricaded with tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
• DURBAN – 30 MAY 2022 (17H40) The Durban University of Technology (DUT) has suspended all on-campus activities on all its five Durban campuses due to water supply challenges today, 30 May 2022. Large parts of Durban have been affected by widespread water supply shortages since the weekend. Umgeni Water confirmed that there was an issue at their Wiggins Water Works and the Durban Heights Water Treatment Plant. All DUT staff had to work remotely for the rest of the day while students were urged to continue with their academic activities online. The university stated that it would give an update on the water supply situation and plans for Tuesday, 31 May 2022, this evening.

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 30 MAY 2022
• MODIMOLLE – 30 MAY 2022 (09H05) The Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality has announced that it will increase its security measures to protect its employees. This follows after the Acting Municipal manager Magda Berrange was attacked in the Municipal building on Friday, 27 May 2022, by an unknown suspect and was hospitalised after sustaining injuries. Municipal Mayor Marlene van Staden stated that Police have launched an investigation regarding the attack.
• GIYANI – 30 MAY 2022 (15H30) The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) is calling on the Department of Health in Limpopo to engage the Greater Giyani Municipality following the electricity load reduction schedule that takes up to 5 hours daily, affecting Khensani Hospital. DENOSA Limpopo Secretary Jacob Molepo stated that the generator in the hospital cannot support the whole hospital and leaves phones, plugs, and air conditioners in critical wards not working. Molepo stated that this could lead to more medical negligence cases in the system, which is already facing medico-legal cases of more than R14-billion.
• MOKOPANE/ POTGIETERSRUS – 30 MAY 2022 (16H30) Peaceful protest reported at the Mogalakwena local municipality office in Mokopane by pump operators. Demonstrators are holding a sit-in protest and are calling on the Mayor and Municipal Manager to address their grievances. This follows after the meeting set by the municipality to meet with the workers on Thursday, 26 May 2022. The meeting was set to address the workers’ grievances regarding outstanding salaries, salary increase, pension fund, and to be registered for Unemployment Insurance Fund. However, worker representatives were not aware of the meeting and did not attend. Pump operators remain on strike until further notice.

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 30 MAY 2022
• WITBANK/EMALAHLENI – 30 MAY 2022 (08H30) Protest reported on the R575 in the vicinity of Duvha Power Station. Residents of Masakhane Informal Settlement are protesting due to the failure of the RCS contractor company to employ local residents. The demonstrators have barricaded the road with burning tyres and debris. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police have been dispatched.
• NELSPRUIT/MBOMBELA – 30 MAY 2022 (11H40) UPDATE Demonstrations reported outside the High Court. The demonstrators have obstructed the area. The Court had postponed to Friday, 12 August 2022. (06H05) Protest expected by the members affiliated with the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) at the Mpumalanga High Court today, 30 May 2022, from 09H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest to demand justice for NEHAWU Shopsteward, Tebogo Matsane, who was killed. The High Court is expected to hand over its judgement on the case. SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 30 MAY 2022
• MAHIKENG – 30 MAY 2022 (06H00) Protest expected by community members of Mahikeng today, 30 May 2022, at the Mahikeng Local Municipality. Community members are expected to protest against the irregular employment of General Workers in the Municipality. The demonstrators are expected to hand over a memorandum of grievances. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to the area.
• GANYESA – 30 MAY 2022 (13H45) The Ganyesa Magistrates Court has postponed the case of eight suspects to Monday, 06 June 2022, for allegedly killing three victims suspected of selling narcotics in Morokweng. This follows after an act of vigilantism by community members. The community members caught the victims selling narcotics and locked them inside their residents before setting the residence alight. The suspects are facing three counts of murder, three counts of kidnapping and one count of arson.

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 30 MAY 2022
• KATHU – 30 MAY 2022 (07H15) Protest expected by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members on Wednesday, 22 June 2022, at the Kumba Iron Ore Mine from 11H00. The demonstrators are expected to gather at Frekkie Meyer Street and march to the mine. EFF members are expected to march in solidarity with the community members to demand employment. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area during the protest.

• CAPE TOWN – 30 MAY 2022 (13H10) Protest expected by members affiliated with the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) on Tuesday, 31 May 2022, at the Melomed Mitchells Plain Private Hospital from 12H00. The demonstrators are expected to protest against cutting costs through performance bonuses and shortage of staff. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police will be deployed to monitor the area.
• CAPE TOWN – 30 MAY 2022 (18H15) UPDATE Cape Town High Court has dismissed Mafe’s appeal against the outcome of his bail application. Mafe will remain in custody. (06H10) Zandile Mafe’s bail application hearing has been set for 30 May 2022 at the Cape Town High Court. The hearing is expected to appoint an additional Judge for the bail application appeal hearing of Mafe set to commence at 09H00. This follows after Mafe allegedly set alight the Parliament building on 02 January 2022. Mafe is facing several charges, including arson, terrorism, theft and others. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is expected to transfer the case to the High Court for the June hearing. Furthermore, the case hearing has been postponed until 09 June 2022. The postponement is expected due to outstanding reports and authorisation certificate.
