  • MTHATHA – 31 MAR 2022 (07H00) Protest reported on the N2 Mthatha near the Dan’s Country Lodge. Community members near Mhlakulo are protesting and have barricaded the roadway with debris. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Authorities have been dispatched to the scene.
  • KING WILLIAMS – 31 MAR 2022 (10H50) Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality is expected to hold elections for ward 33 on Wednesday, 20 April 2022.  A gathering of community members are expected during the election.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – FREE STATE – 31 MAR 2022

  • BLOEMFONTEIN – 31 MAR 2022 (12H10) Former President Jacob Zuma is expected to appear in the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in Bloemfontein on Monday, 11 April 2022. The (SCA) has dismissed Zuma’s appeal against his corruption charges. The SCA stated that there are no grounds for Zuma’s appeal to be heard. The court distinguished that Zuma’s appeal against Judge Piet Koen’s rulings not be made public.
  • BLOEMFONTEIN – 31 MAR 2022 (13H30) The Free State Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Mxolisi Dukwana, is expected to present the budget speech today, 31 March 2022. Dukwana will address service delivery issues in the Mangaung, Kopanong, and Matjhabeng Municipalities.
  • WELKOM – 31 MAR 2022 (17H05) Road closure reported at the Koppie Alleen road in Riebeeckstad. The road closure follows a motor vehicle accident near the BP garage. Emergency services are on the scene. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – GAUTENG – 31 MAR 2022

  • JOHANNESBURG – 31 MAR 2022 (05H00) Road closures expected on several routes surrounding the Cathedral of St Mary the Virgin at the corner of Plein Street and Wanderers Street in the Johannesburg Central Business District (CBD) between 06H00 and 13H00 today, 31 March 2022. The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has issued a notice of expected road closures during the Public Safety Prayer Day proceedings at the Cathedral of St Mary the Virgin. City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor Mpho Phalatse and Public Safety Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) David Tembe are expected to host the event. The road closures are necessitated due to the large number of Public Safety officials expected in attendance. Road closures are expected to cause ground travel disruptions on Plein Street between Eloff and Wanderers Street and on Wanderers Street between Plein and Noord Street. JMPD officers will be deployed in the area during the event. Motorists are advised to avoid affected roads and use alternative routes.
  • SANDTON – 31 MAR 2022 (09H00) President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to appear before the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) on Friday, 01 April 2022. The hearing will take place at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Sandton at 09H00. President Ramaphosa will give evidence at the National Investigative Hearing into the July 2021 unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng. The Commission launched the investigative hearings to exercise its constitutional and statutory mandate in relation to the causes of the unrest and the impact of the unrest on human rights.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 31 MAR 2022 (09H45) The Johannesburg Specialised Crimes Court has issued a warrant of arrest for former Eskom manager France Hlakudi. This is due to his non-appearance in court on Tuesday, 29 March 2022. Hlakudi is currently facing charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering. Hlakudi’s bail of R300,000 has been forfeited, and final forfeiture will take place on Wednesday, 13 April 2022
  • MIDRAND – 31 MAR 2022 (10H00) The Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, is expected to provide an update on the deadline for the extension of licence validity on Friday, 01 April 2022 at 09H00. This follows after the Department of Transport announced the extension of learner’s licences, driving licence cards, temporary driving licences and professional driving permits until 31 March 2022, as part of Government measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.
  • ALEXANDRA – 31 MAR 2022 (10H40) Operation Dudula members are expected to meet at the Alexandra Police Station today, 31 March 2022, to demand the release of nine members that have been arrested on Wednesday, 30 March 2022. The Police arrested nine members of Operation Dudula in two separate incidents in Alexandra on Wednesday, 30 March 2022.  Four members have been arrested at Pan Africa Mall for common robbery. Five suspects have been arrested after trying to evict people from their residence.
  • MIDRAND – 31 MAR 2022 (11H30) Road closure reported on the N1 before Allandale Road in Midrand. The road is closed due to a motor vehicle accident. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes. Emergency services are on the scene. Recovery is in progress.
  • SOWETO – 31 MAR 2022 (11H45) Protest reported at the Bheki Mlangeni Hospital by the Young Nurses Indaba Trade Union. Hospital employees are protesting for additional staff. Demonstrators are blocking the entrance of the hospital. Motorists are advised to be vigilant.
  • PRETORIA/ TSHWANE – 31 MAR 2022 (12H10) UPDATE Members of USWMSA are at the Department of Social Development buildings on Pretorius Street. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.  (06H30) Protest expected in the Pretoria Central Business District today, 31 March 2022, by the Unemployed Social Workers Movement of South Africa (USWMSA) at 09H00. The movement will demand feedback regarding memorandums submitted at the Department of Social Development in previous marches about the high rate of unemployment of Social Workers graduates. The demonstrators are expected to gather at 09H00 near Madiba Street and Kgosi Mampuru Street. The affected streets include Sophie de Bruyn Street, Francis Baard Street, Bosman Street and Pretorius Street until the Department of Social Development at the HSRC Building, Pretorius Street, Pretoria Central. The Tshwane Metro Police Department has been made aware of the demonstration and has advised all motorists to use an alternative route for the duration of the protest.
  • VEREENIGING – 31 MAR 2022 (13H10) Protest reported at the Sebokeng Water Treatment Plant by the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU). Employees from the Emfuleni local municipality raised concerns to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) regarding water challenges. Motorists are advised to be vigilant. Police are monitoring the situation.
  • PRETORIA/TSHWANE – 31 MAR 2022 (13H45) The National Police Commissioner General Khehla Sithole announced his retirement and will vacate his office today, Thursday, 31 March 2022. General Sithole’s departure is due to corruption allegations. Therefore Genl Sithole leaves office seven months early.
  • ALBERTON – 31 MAR 2022 (15H00) UPDATE Leopard’s Rest residents are protesting due to a water interruption lasting nine days. Coordinator for Service Delivery, Jones Zondo, stated that the water supply is expected to be restored on Saturday, 02 April 2022.  (07H25) Demonstrators are reportedly protesting over service delivery related to water outages. Motorists have been advised to avoid the area. Demonstrations are reported on the Kliprivier Drive towards Vereeniging Road in the vicinity of the J G Strijdom Road intersection in Alberton. Authorities are on the scene. (05H20) Protest reported on Kliprivier Drive in the vicinity of the J G Strijdom Road intersection in Alberton. Reports indicate that demonstrators are barricading the roadway with burning tyres and debris. The reason for the demonstration is unclear at this time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Authorities have been dispatched to the scene.
  • JOHANNESBURG – 31 MAR 2022 (15H20) The National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) has announced that the NNR Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mzubanzi Bismark Tyobeka will be resigning to pursue his profession elsewhere. A new CEO will be announced soon.
  • PRETORIA/ TSHWANE – 31 MAR 2022 (15H20) UPDATE President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to announce the new National Commissioner of Police in an address to the nation today, 31 March 2022, at 16H30. (13H45) The National Police Commissioner General Khehla Sithole is retiring and will vacate his office today, Thursday, 31 March 2022. General Sithole’s departure is due to corruption allegations. Therefore Genl Sithole leaves office seven months early.
  • SANDTON – 31 MAR 2022 (17H55) Road closure expected by members of the Wanderers Club. This follows the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge. Members are expected to embark on a 5,6 kilometres (km) race. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – KWAZULU-NATAL – 31 MAR 2022

  • ETATANE – 31 MAR 2022 (01H00) Vehicle fire reported on the N3 Northbound approaching the intersection of Colenso and Winterhold in the vicinity of Etatane. Reports indicate that a truck is on fire on the roadway. The truck is obstructing traffic movement on the N3 Northbound. The reason for the fire remains undetermined. Emergency services are on the scene. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution when approaching the scene.
  • DURBAN – 31 MAR 2022 (06H15) The eThekwini Municipality has announced a planned water outage scheduled for today, 31 March 2022, in several areas of the north, central, south, and inner west regions in the municipality. The interruption is due to a valve failure in the vicinity of the Durban Heights Treatment Works of uMgeni Water. The municipality has stated that due to a valve failure, the uMgeni Water Main Reservoir has been isolated from undertaking repairs. Repairs are underway, and updates will be provided to the public as the situation progresses.
  • ESHOWE – 31 MAR 2022 (08H40) UPDATE Demonstrators are attempting to loot a still standing truck on the R66 in Eshowe. Additional Police officers have been dispatched to the scene.  (06H40) Protest reported on the R66 between Eshowe and Nkwaleni near the Umlalazi river bridge. Community members are burning tyres and debris on the road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use an alternative route for the duration of the protest. Police are dispatched to the scene.
  • MACHUNWINI – 31 MAR 2022 (08H40) Road closure reported on the R56 at Machunwini. This is due to a heavy motor vehicle accident. Emergency services are on the scene. Motorists are advised to use the N2 as an alternative route.
  • RICHARDS BAY – 31 MAR 2022 (13H45) Protest reported at the Richards Bay Municipality office on Mark Strasse Street. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the area. Police are on the scene.
  • RICHARDS BAY – 31 MAR 2022 (15H00) Bell Articulated Dump Trucks (ADT) announced that it will relocate parts of its manufacturing from South Africa to Germany. This is due to high risks and volatility in the South African landscape. This follows after the civil unrest in July 2021, which temporarily closed the factory in Richards Bay.
  • WEENEN – 31 MAR 2022 (15H40) The Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union (SACTWU) postponed its scheduled march at Orange Grove Farm on Friday, 01 April 2022. Employees were expected to protest due to salary disputes. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – LIMPOPO – 31 MAR 2022

  • POLOKWANE/ PIETERSBURG – 31 MAR 2022 (11H45) The Polokwane Local Municipality announced scheduled power interruptions in Seshego today, 31 March 2022. Technicians are installing a pole and fuse links. The installation will enable the connection of a new water reticulation in the area. The power supply is expected to be restored at 16H00 today.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – MPUMALANGA – 31 MAR 2022

  • NELSPRUIT/ MBOMBELA – 31 MAR 2022 (01H20) The N4 between the Mara and Mabalel intersection approaching Mbombela has been reopened to allow the movement of traffic. This follows after the road had been closed due to a motor vehicle accident.
  • NELSPRUIT/ MBOMBELA – 31 MAR 2022 (08H30) Road closure expected on the N4 between Valencia Link and Croc Valley from 13H00 and at the Montrose intersection from 14H00 today, 31 March 2022. The roads will be closed for scheduled blasting. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes during this time.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTH WEST – 31 MAR 2022

  • RUSTENBURG – 31 MAR 2022 (11H00) Unrest expected at the Olympia Park Stadium by Operation Dudula members from 09H00 on 27 April 2022. Demonstrators will be protesting against the illegalities of narcotics and substance abuse, illegal immigration and the marginalising of South African informal business sectors. Demonstrators are demanding the employment of South Africans first. Motorists are advised to avoid the area during the gathering. Police are aware of the situation.
  • POTCHEFSTROOM – 31 MAR 2022 (15H55) The Police Spokesperson Amanda Funani, issued a notice of hijackings in the North West province. There has been an escalation in hijackings between 24-27 March 2022. The suspects are dressed as metro Police officers and are driving a white Volks Wagen sedan. Motorist are advised to be vigilant.
  • MAHIKENG – 31 MAR 2022 (16H15) UPDATE The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is calling for the immediate arrest of the officials the allegations have been levelled against. The EFF is also calling on the Commissioner and Head of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) to intervene and ensure all relevant action is taken. The EFF has accompanied the female victim to the IPID to open a case of sexual assault against the alleged officials involved.  (09H20) The North West Provincial Police are investigating allegations made on social media that Police sexually assaulted a female victim in Bokone village, Mahikeng. A preliminary investigation regarding the allegations indicates that no case of sexual assault has been registered at one of the Police Stations in Mahikeng. Police management stated that criminal activities will not be condoned in the South African Police Service (SAPS).

 

SOUTH AFRICA – NORTHERN CAPE – 31 MAR 2022

  • KIMBERLEY – 31 MAR 2022 (10H25) The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in the Northern Cape is calling for the prosecution of ANC leaders involved in corruption. ANCYL also stated that the ANC requests renewal of the party and corrupt leaders be convicted. The ANCYL suggested that the renewal structure be by developing to the cadre ship of Mxolisi Sokatsha.
  • KIMBERLEY – 31 MAR 2022 (14H10) Protest expected at Kagisho Police station by Operation Fiela at 17H00 today, 31 March 2022. Demonstrators will be protesting against illegal foreign nationals in South Africa. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police are aware of the situation.
  • KIMBERLEY – 31 MAR 2022 (14H30) UPDATE Members of the EFF are protesting outside the Witdam Police station.  EFF Provincial Secretary has successfully opened an against Northern Cape Premier, Zamani Saul. (06H10) Protest expected in Kimberley today, 31 March 2022, from 11H00. Provincial Secretary f the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Shadrack Tlhaole, is expected to lead a march to the Witdam Police Station to open a case against Northern Cape Premier, Zamani Saul, regarding his Tanzania trip of perjury, fraud and corruption. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route for the duration of the demonstration. Police are expected to be deployed to the scene.

 

SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – 31 MAR 2022

  • CAPE TOWN – 31 MAR 2022 (04H45) Department of Finance and Economic Development Member of Executive Council (MEC) David Maynier has called for the privatisation of the Port of Cape Town. This follows as Maynier has recently described the Port as a disaster zone. The MEC has stated that he is expected to engage with Transnet Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Portia Derby to discuss the Port’s operations in due course.
  • CAPE TOWN – 31 MAR 2022 (06H50) Road closure reported on the R310 Baden Powell Drive between Muizenburg and Strandfontein. The road is closed due to sea debris on the road. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route. Traffic officers have been dispatched to the area.
  • CAPE TOWN – 31 MAR 2022 (12H20) Shooting reported on Lavis Drive in Matroosfontein. Suspects are attempting to hijack a vehicle. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Police have been dispatched to the scene.
