Security sources have confirmed that al-Shabaab militants have kidnapped a Kenyan doctor in the vicinity of Fino in Kenya’s northeast county of Mandera. Police have stated that four armed militants abducted the doctor and two locals from the Fino Health Centre. Security teams have launched an operation to locate and recover the doctor following reports that the militants have transported the doctor across the border to neighbouring Somalia. Authorities have stated that the doctor is not a local, thus the possible reason for the abduction. The two locals have reportedly been released before the militants and the doctor passed through the Kenya-Somalia border. Additional security operations in the area are expected during the following few days.
