The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has announced a planned strike action to be held today, 11 January 2022. This follows after the union issued a one-week strike notice to the Mombasa County Government following pending November 2021 and December 2021 salary arrears. The KMPDU Coast Branch Secretary, Nassir Shaban, gave the Government an ultimatum following their grievances with the County Health Department. The union has also accused the county government of perennial salary delays, failure to promote 70 health consultants and benefits to doctors under permanent and pensionable terms. The affected hospitals due to the strike action will include the Coast General Health and Referral hospital, Chuda, Potrieze, Likoni, Mlaleo and Utange Health centres.
