The Ministry of Water and Sanitation has announced expected adverse weather at the Shire and Ruo catchments on 12 March 2022 and 14 March 2022. The adverse weather is expected due to tropical cyclone Gombe reaching southern Malawi. The rivers expected to overflow in the Shire catchment are Shire, Likwenu, Lunsu, Lirangwe, Thangasi, Milore, Mwamphansi, Lisanjala and Nkhate. Furthermore, the rivers expected to overflow in the Ruo catchment is the Chisombezi, Muloza, Ruo Chisawani, Luchenza, Thutchira and the Lichenya. The Ministry has advised the general public to be cautious when crossing flooded rivers and streams. The Ministry further emplored the public to utilise the Community Based Flood Early Warning System (CBFEWS).
