MALAWI – CENTRAL – LILONGWE – ANNOUNCEMENT 10 MAR 2022 (20:45)

Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) officials have announced that Malawi requires an estimated K68 billion in additional funding to carry out its four-month disaster response plan in response to the effects of Tropical Cyclone Ana. The Department has stated that approximately K72,7 billion is required to successfully implement the response strategy. Currently, the Department has a funding shortfall of K68,9 billion. This follows as Tropical Storm Ana triggered torrential rainfall accompanied by increased wind speeds over most areas of the country, which led to severe flooding across all districts in the Southern Region and several districts in the Central Region. The DoDMA’s disaster report stated that more than 995,000 people have been affected by the cyclone.
