MocÃmboa da Praia Permanent District Secretary João Joaquim António Saraiva has announced that residents displaced from the district due to insecurity and insurgent occupation have been authorised to return to their respective villages of origin. Residents that are allowed to return first include people from the district of Palma, particularly those currently residing in the Quitunda Resettlement Village and in Maganja village on the Afungi Peninsula. This follows after Minister of National Defence, Cristóvão Chume, recently stated that the joint Rwandan and Mozambican troops are engaged in ongoing efforts to ensure the safe return of the population.
