The National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) has announced that the water level at the Umbeluzi river has submerged a passage that connects about eight neighbourhoods to the village of Boane in Maputo. The river had submerged following the rising inflow resulting from the rain in the region, which had led authorities to allocate boats to cross the river. The Director of Public Works, Isália Malia, has stated that the vessel was allocated after the increase, from 60 to 120 cubic metres, in discharges at the Pequenos Libombos dam. Malia further stated that the situation remains recurrent in the region during the rainy season due to the poor state of the stream and has also stated that she will seek further assistance from the Central Government regarding the situation.
