The Governments of Zimbabwe and Mozambique have announced the launch of discussions regarding plans to jointly establish a natural gas extraction and processing operation in the Buzi and Temani area of the Manica Province in Mozambique. The agreement follows recent bilateral talks held between Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi. The agreement is expected to allow Zimbabwe to significantly reduce its electricity import costs. In addition to gas extraction, the operation is also expected to include the processing of gas into petrol, diesel, fertiliser and various other chemical products. Zimbabwean Ambassador to Mozambique, Victor Matemadanda, has stated that Government officials from both countries are currently engaged in discussions regarding the modalities of the agreement.
