Mozambique’s Council of Ministers has announced a decision to lease an additional 138 hectares to the Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) in response to an increase in demand for cargo handling services nationally and regionally at the Maputo Port. Subsequently, the size of the concession granted to MPDC is set to increase from the current 140 hectares to 278 hectares in total. Government Spokesperson, Deputy Justice Minister Filimao Suaze, has stated that the development of the Port is expected to allow for an increase in the Port’s capacity and an improvement in its regional competitiveness.
