The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has imposed further sanctions on Mali after its military junta failed to meet its deadline to transition to civilian rule. The regional group has suspended Mali from all ECOWAS institutions. As well as closing all borders to Mali for land and air travellers. The decision was reached by the Heads of States and the Government of ECOWAS at an extraordinary summit in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, on Sunday, 09 January 2022.
