President Muhammadu Buhari has announced the decision to lift the suspension of the social networking service Twitter in Nigeria in effect from 00H00 today, 13 January 2022. The Chairman Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement and Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, has stated that the approval had been given following the Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement’s recommendation. This follows after the Federal Government of Nigeria had suspended Twitter on 05 June 2021. Thereafter, the Presidential Committee set a 20-member Technical Committee comprising all relevant Government agencies and worked with the Twitter company.
