The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has announced that troops of Operation Delta Safe have recovered and deactivated more than 30 illegal crude oil refining sites in Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta and the Abia States. Defence Media Operations Director Bernard Onyeuko has stated that this follows amid an ongoing Military operation across the country. Onyeuko has confirmed that the operations have been conducted throughout the preceding two weeks in the Southern zone of Nigeria. The Director has further stated that eight explosive devices have been evacuated by the troops, among several other types of equipment. An estimated 2,8 million litres of crude oil and 3,8 million litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) have been recovered during the operation. The Defence Spokesperson has stated that troops have destroyed 57 galvanised pipes and arrested 25 suspects during the period. Onyeuko has noted that the recovered items have been handed over to the appropriate authority for further action.
