NIGERIA – FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY – ABUJA – SERVICE DISRUPTION 09 MAR 2022 (19:30)

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced large-scale electricity generation shortfalls, causing mass loadshedding and frequent power interruptions across the country. The TCN has stated that the current cumulative nationwide generation capacity is significantly low. Generation companies have attributed the shortfalls to various factors, including poor gas supply, fault in generating units, and scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. TCN Public Affairs General Manager Ndidi Mbah has stated that a combination of issues from gas constraints and technical problems within generating plants are causing persistent low generation and consequently low load allocation to Distribution Companies nationwide. Mbah has further noted that efforts are underway to efficiently allocate the total load generated by power generation stations into the grid.
