Attack reported in the town of Kainya in Nigeria’s northwestern Kebbi State. Reports indicate that 19 soldiers and security personnel have been killed during an attack by unidentified armed suspects on the Deputy Governor’s convoy. Armed clashes subsequently ensued between Defence Force soldiers and the armed suspects. The incident follows an increase in armed attacks in the region, coincident with a Military operation against armed groups active in the area. No group has claimed responsibility for the incident. However, the Boko Haram organisation is known to be active in northwestern Nigeria.
