The Gatuna Border Post between Rwanda and Uganda has officially reopened following three years of closure. The border had previously been closed due to an advisory by the Rwandan Government to citizens regarding safety concerns when travelling to Uganda. The advisory followed a significant increase in abductions of Rwandans in Uganda. The reopening follows the implementation of a directive by the Cabinet that all land borders between Rwanda and neighbouring countries must reopen on Monday, 07 March 2022. The reopening of the border is expected to significantly improve the movement of traffic across the border in the Gicumbi District.
