SOUTH AFRICA – EASTERN CAPE – GQEBERHA/ PORT ELIZABETH – ALERT 10 JAN 2022 (20:00)

Municipal security has escorted Nelson Mandela Bay Democratic Alliance (DA) Councillor, Rano Kayser, out of the council meeting at the City Hall today, 10 January 2022. Kayser was removed from the meeting after he and DA Councillor Morne Steyn complained about the sound system at the Feather Market Centre, which led to their microphones being muted. Councillors have been allocated various venues due to COVID-19. The incident occurred during an unofficial break in the council meeting due to technical difficulties. Steyn stated that the DA had not been allocated any seats at the City Hall as normal. Other Councillors were dissatisfied with the DA Councillors taking seats in the venue. Steyn stated that they are taking advice on whether to lay criminal charges or civil charges against the security officials.
