Department of Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu has announced that the Nooitgedagt Water Treatment Works Phase 3 facility is expected to be commissioned in July 2022 as the project is at 99% completion. This follows amid the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro’s (NMBMs) ongoing drought crisis. Minister Mchunu made the announcement following the conclusion of his two-day working visit in Gqeberha, where he met with NMBM Executive Mayor Eugene Johnson, together with other leaders from the Provincial Government, Buffalo City Metro, Amatola Water Board and Sarah Baartman. Mchunu has stated that the first water supply from the project is expected to be available by April 2022.
