The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) has called on the Government to rescind the five-year driver licence system. The Spokesperson for OUTA, Wayne Duvenage, has further urged the Governement to install a 10-year period to renew driver’s licences. The Automobile Association (AA) has also expressed concerns regarding the backlog of the driving licence cards in South Africa. The AA Spokesperson Layton Beard has further called for a move to digitise the systems at the Department of Transport, including the mandatory eye test needed for the licence card. Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula has stated that the Department plans to welcome an online payment system, not only driving licence card renewals but also vehicle licences, as well as learner and driving licence tests.
