The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has called on Sibanye Stillwater shareholders to remove Neal Froneman as the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with immediate effect. This follows Sibanye Stillwater’s refusal to meet with South African trade union leaders to discuss wage increase disputes. The NUM has further called on the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) to withdraw the mining licenses on all mines or operations that have been placed under maintenance by Sibanye Stillwater. The Union has reiterated its demands for a wage increase of R1,000 for surface and underground miners and a 6% increase for artisans, miners and officials.
