Tshwane Mayor Randall Williams stated that the City had rejected the tariff price increase by Eskom. Eskom has approached the National Energy Regulator of South Africa to request a 20,5% increase for the 2022/23 financial year, followed by a 15,07% increase next year and a 10% increase the year after. Williams stated that should the three proposed price increases be implemented, electricity purchased from Eskom in three years’ time will be 50% more expensive than it currently is. This will have a negative effect on residents, businesses and the City.
