The eThekwini Municipality announced that work to install a new transformer at the Johanna Road sewage pump station is expected to be completed by the end of the week. This follows after a sewage spillage that caused the closure of seven Durban beaches due to high Escherichia coli (E. coli) levels. The beaches included South Beach, North Beach, Bay of Plenty Beach, Sun Coast Beach, Country Club Beach, and Umgeni Beach.
