Suspended uMngeni Municipal Manager Thembeka Cibane is expected to face criminal charges over her alleged financial misconduct. The uMngeni Municipality’s leadership is considering bringing charges against her based on the allegations in the Special Investigation Unit’s (SIU) report. Cibane has been suspended in August 2021 and is in a disciplinary hearing, facing 35 dismissible offences, including fraud, corruption, mileage maladministration, and perjury. The SIU report indicated that R20-million from the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) was used without council approval. The funds were intended for COVID-19 interventions.
