The Democratic Alliance (DA) is calling on the Public Enterprises Minister, Pravin Gordhan, to clarify the appointment of the acting General Manager (GM) Leilani Swartbooi of the Pooling and Sharing Joint Venture (PSJV) between Alexkor and the Richtersveld Mining Company (RMC) in the Alexander Bay area. Swartbooi was previously the Environmental Manager at the diamond mine. The DA has raised concerns regarding her appointment as she is allegedly responsible for the environmental damage along the Northern Cape coast, where cofferdams have been built under her supervision.
