The Sol Plaatje Municipality has announced that heavy rainfall experienced during November and December 2021 has resulted in Dams upstream reaching their respective capacities. The Municipality stated that sluice gates have been opened, causing water levels to rise and flow at a more rapid rate, causing the water’s turbidity to increase. The increase in turbidity causes the water to become unclear as particles do not settle at the normal rate causing discolouring of the water. The Municipality added that tests are being conducted to determine the turbidity and the required dosages and the water is safe for human consumption. Members of the public will be notified should the water quality be unsafe.
