Eskom announced that it is approaching the court to collect R106-million that the Renosterberg Local Municipality owes to the state entity. Eskom has declined to pay the debt for unpaid December 2021 salaries to workers at the Northern Cape Municipality, due to legal action taken by the power provider to freeze the municipality’s bank account. Since Friday, 07 January 2022, municipal employees have been on strike, cutting off water supplies. Democratic Alliance (DA) Councilor Matt Posthumus, has called on Prime Minister Zamani Saul for a high-level intervention.
