Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Chief Whip Floyd Shivambu has rejected the City Hall as the State of the Nation Address (Sona) venue on Thursday, 10 February 2022. Shivambu calls for a larger venue to accommodate all 400 members of Parliament (MPs). Secretary of the National Assembly, Masibulele Xaso, stated that 300 MPs would attend the Sona, including members of the judiciary, executives, premiers, speakers of provinces. Other MPs would join virtually. Parliament is expected to spend R2-million on the Cape Town City Hall, where President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the Sona.
