SOUTH AFRICA – WESTERN CAPE – CAPE TOWN – ANNOUNCEMENT 04 MAR 2022 (20:00)

Eskom Chief Operating Officer Jan Oberholzer announced the postponement of the 3 Steam Generators replacement on the Koeberg Power Station Unit 2 to August 2023. This is to avoid the risk of impacting the electricity supply during the winter season. Oberholzer gave an update on the Koeberg Power Station Unit 2 long-term outage and steam generator replacement project, which started in January 2022. The final review to ensure that the Steam Generator Replacement would be completed at the expected quality level, concluded that there is a high risk of the unit not being returned to the grid later than the expected time frame. However, the fuel has been successfully loaded, and the majority of the work planned in the early part of the outage has progressed as per the outage programme.
