Tanzanian and Ugandan port and rail service providers have signed a freight forwarding agreement with Roofings Group of Uganda in an effort to increase the volume of cargo movement through the Dar es Salaam port. The agreement involves the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), the Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC), the Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) and is facilitated under the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (CCTTFA). TRC Director General Masanja Kadogosa has stated that an estimated 2% of Uganda’s cargo currently passes through the Dar es Salaam port. However, the agreement is expected to increase shipping by 30%. CCTTFA Executive Secretary Dieudonne Dukundane has stated that further efforts are underway to improve trade between East African countries.
