ZIMBABWE – HARARE – HARARE – ECONOMY 02 MAR 2022 (04:15)

The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) Holdings has announced that the construction of the Hwange 7 and 8 Thermal Power Station is currently at 82% completion. The station is expected to add an additional 600 megawatts (mW) of generating capacity to the country’s national power grid. ZESA Holdings Deputy Chairperson Tsitsi Makova has stated that delays have been experienced in the procurement of imported materials due to COVID-19 induced restrictions. Makova has stated that the additional 600 mW is also expected to allow ZESA to conduct scheduled maintenance on older units, thereby reducing the risk of plant failures.
